Hi, I’m Rachel.
I’m a writer, strategist, and community builder based in Iowa, endlessly fascinated by the idea of place: how where we are shapes how we live.
My background sits at the intersection of local government, strategic communications, and placemaking.
For nearly a decade, I’ve worked inside city government, helping communities find creative, practical ways to thrive. It’s given me a front-row seat to how meaning and belonging are created.
That perspective shapes everything I write.
My articles and projects explore how we live, locate, and connect. What makes a place feel alive? And what does it mean to build a meaningful life?
I’m also the founder of Quartier Social Club, a creative brand about living well, right where you are. It’s a space to explore how to design a life you love by embracing where you are, choosing what matters, and leaning into the culture of your everyday.
At its heart, that’s what my work is about. The everyday. How we connect, what we notice, and the meaning we make along the way.
Currently
I’m working on a book about how local government really works. Think part field guide, part reality check, written for anyone who’s ever wondered why good ideas get stuck (and how to unstick them).
I also write a twice-monthly newsletter on Substack and two posts a month on my blog, Quartier Social Club. The Substack is where you’ll find reflections on place and intentional living, while the blog offers more practical tips on designing a life you love, right where you are.
At Home
Offline, I’m usually cooking, reading, or planning our next trip. I love beautiful things, good wine, bad coffee, and anywhere with a water view.
